My journey to Jiufen was like stepping into a dream world. This quaint mountain village, famously known as the inspiration for Hayao Miyazaki’s animated masterpiece "Spirited Away," was an unforgettable experience for me and my daughter. We had spent countless afternoons watching the movie together, mesmerized by its enchanting visuals and captivating story. Visiting Jiufen felt like walking through a painting that had come to life.
A Canvas of Memories
Upon arriving, I was immediately struck by the stone steps, winding alleys, and charming teahouses that mirrored the scenes from the film. The lazy cats lounging on doorsteps, indifferent to the bustling tourists, added to the village's unique charm. As night fell, lanterns were hung everywhere, casting a mysterious and alluring glow over the village.
One evening, I found myself in a quaint teahouse, admiring a beautifully arranged Ikebana flower vase. The simplicity and elegance of the arrangement reflected the sophistication of the Japanese tea culture. The server's detailed explanations helped me choose a tea called "Oriental Beauty." As I waited, I marveled at the exquisite teapots and cups displayed on wooden shelves, each piece a testament to Taiwan's rich tea tradition.
