Between 2010 and 2015, my work frequently took me between Saigon and Bangkok, with trips almost every month. Over time, Bangkok became so familiar to me that even now, with my eyes closed, I can vividly recall the city's hot and bustling aroma.
Thailand is a land of abundant natural ingredients, yet Bangkok, its capital, is a city marked by heat and traffic. Despite creating numerous fragrances with Ylang Ylang, Frangipani, and Jasmine Sambac, I found it impossible to resist adding the scent of car exhaust and a hint of burnt rubber. It would have been easier if a fragrance could simply be sweet and pleasant, utilizing all the wonderful ingredients this country offers. However, for me, the concept of a fragrance goes beyond that. It must be a truthful reflection of the emotions evoked by the sense of smell.
I painted a picture depicting Bangkok in the sweltering summer heat, capturing the essence of the fruit stalls lining Chatuchak Market. Ripe yellow mangoes, fresh-pressed juice stalls (tangerine and red pomegranate), and jasmine garlands strung together on bamboo trays by the roadside all feature in my memory. The smoke from the traffic added to the oppressive atmosphere. Yet, I also recall the scent of Ylang Ylang in the Oasis Spa, the aroma of Kaffir lime leaves and holy basil in the Tom Yum Goong soup I enjoyed every evening.
For the base note, I chose Benzoin Siam, a renowned Thai ingredient. It provides a soothing finish to the fragrance, much like the gentle smiles of the local people.

Top Notes: Kaffir Lime, Tangerine, Holy Basil
Heart Notes: Birch Tar Oil, Mango, Jasmine Sambac, Ylang Ylang, Burnt Rubber
Base Notes: Benzoin Siam, Vanilla
This fragrance is a harmonious blend of the overwhelming modern urbanity and the sweet, fresh fruits of a once exceedingly fertile land. It captures the essence of Bangkok's bustling streets and the serene moments of respite found within its vibrant culture.
Creating this scent was not just about capturing pleasant aromas; it was about reflecting the true sensory experience of Bangkok. The heat, the traffic, the sweet fruits, and the calming spa moments all come together to tell a story through fragrance. Just like a painting captures the essence of a moment in time, this fragrance captures the essence of a place that has left a lasting impression on me.
